1. You guys make me really proud. When you get the answer right when you improve in your learning, when you don’t fail a quiz you thought you would, when you finally connect the dots of what something means, I feel so immensely proud of you. But beyond that, I am so proud of who you are as humans. You are pretty amazing and I hope you know that. I hope you are proud of yourself too!

2. Give yourself a break. You are going to make mistakes. You are going to make bad grades. You are going to make choices you regret. You are going to have bad days. You are going to worry and stress, but things will work out in the end. And if they don’t it is not over yet. Be gentle with yourself.

3. And speaking of bad grades. You are more than a number. Your grades do not define who you are. Your work ethic, your heart, your empathy, that does. How you carry yourself, defines you. Not even a test grade, a report card letter, an SAT score can define you. You get to define yourself and that’s pretty extraordinary.

4. You are so very loved. By me, by your other teachers, by your families, by God. Never forget how loved you are.

5. You have the power to change the world. I know that sounds cliche. It is cliche. But your kindness, your smarts, your sense of humor, will change the world. The almost past 180-ish days I’ve known you, there is just something about you. There are so many injustices in this world, that you and others will face, but you can do something about them. You can. And I think you will.

6. Teachers do not know everything. Adults do not have it all figured out. As you guys have seen this year, I have failed and I have made mistakes. See we are learning every day. We are supposed to be role models, but truthfully we are still learners too. We will try our very best to get you the right answer, but we do not always have it. Sometimes you have the answer. Sometimes neither of us do. And that is okay. We are all still learning and I hope you never stop longing to learn either. But see you should be kind to your teachers. Especially the ones that are there for you, the ones that you know care. The ones who show up for you when you need it.The ones who see your effort. Be kind to them, and know that they are trying.

7. There is never a dream too big. Do not ever let anyone tell you that your dream is too big or too small. When you set your heart on something, you can do it. You just have to make the jump. Go after them. Start today. Take the leap of faith, and know when you fail, because you will fail, I will be right here in your corner cheering you on. I cannot wait to see all that you will achieve.

8. Find your voice. Find what your truth is and speak it. Speak your truth. And when that truth changes, speak again.

9. There will never be another you. Yes, you. See it’s another, cliche: “Always be yourself.” But, here is the thing. I see who you are. Even though you may not think an adult like me, could see you, trust me, I do. And that person, the person reading this, is one of the best people I know. You get to decide what to do with that person. You get to decide to grow into the best version of that person, today.

10. It has been a privilege to get to know you. I am so thankful to have been your teacher, even in the short amount of time we had in the classroom. Those days at the time, seemed long, and I know you can agree, but now they do not seem entirely enough. I am honored to know every single one of you. And I hope to see you all so soon.
