Accelerated mammary gland development in intellectually disabled.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The vitamin D receptor (VDR) is present in mammary gland, and VDR ablation is associated with accelerated glandular development during puberty. VDR is a nuclear receptor whose ligand, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25-(OH)(2)D] is generated after metabolic activation of vitamin D by specific vitamin D hydroxylases. In these studies, we demonstrate that both the VDR and the vitamin D 1-alpha hydroxylase (CYP27B1), which produces 1,25-(OH)(2)D are present in mammary gland and dynamically regulated during pregnancy, lactation, and involution. Furthermore, we show that mice lacking VDR exhibit accelerated lobuloalveolar development and premature casein expression during pregnancy and delayed postlactational involution compared with mice with functional VDR. The delay in mammary gland regression after weaning of VDR knockout mice is associated with impaired apoptosis as demonstrated by reductions in terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine nick-end labeling staining, caspase-3 activation and Bax induction. Under the conditions used in this study, VDR ablation was not associated with hypocalcemia, suggesting that altered mammary gland development in the absence of the VDR is not related to disturbances in calcium homeostasis. Furthermore, in the setting of normocalcemia, VDR ablation does not affect milk protein or calcium content. These studies suggest that the VDR contributes to mammary cell turnover during the reproductive cycle, and its effects may be mediated via both endocrine and autocrine signaling pathways. Unlike many mammary regulatory factors that exert transient, stage-specific effects, VDR signaling impacts on mammary gland biology during all phases of the reproductive cycle.

You have 41. 6 g of o2 gas in a container with twice the volume as one with co2 gas. The pressure and temperature of both containers are the same. Calculate the mass of carbon dioxide gas you have in the container.

Answers

Answer: The mass of carbon dioxide is 28.6 grams

Explanation:  Step 1: Data given

Mass of O2 = 41.6 grams

Volume of the O2 container = 2V

Volume of the CO2 container = V

Pressure and temperature are the same

Step 2: Ideal gas law

The ideal gas law = p*V=nRT

For O2: p*2V = n(O2)*R*T

For CO2: p*V = n(CO2)*R*T

n(O2)*R*T / P*2V = n(CO2)*R*T / P*V

Since P, R and T are contstant, we can simplify this to:

n(O2)/2 = n(CO2)

Step 3:  Calculate moles of O2

Moles O2 = mass O2/ Molar mass O2

Moles O2 = 41.6 grams / 32 g/mol

Moles O2 = 1.3 mol O2

The number of moles CO2 = 0.65 mol

Mass of CO2 = Moles CO2 * Molar Mass CO2

Mass of CO2 = 0.65 mol * 44.01 g/mol

Mass of CO2 = 28.6 grams

The mass of carbon dioxide is 28.6 grams

a player pays $15 to play a game in which a chip is randomly selected from a bag of chips. the bag contains 10 red chips, 4 blue chips, and 6 yellow chips. the player wins $5 if a red chip is selected, $10 if a blue chip is selected, and $20 if a yellow chip is selected. let the random variable x represent the amount won from the selection of the chip, and let the random variable w represent the total amount won, where w=x−15. what is the mean of w ?

Answers

The mean of w which represents the total amount won where w = x + 15 is;

w = -$4.5

We are given;

Winnings if a red chip is selected; x₁ = $5.

Now, there are 10 red chips in a bag of 20 chips.

Thus, the probability of this outcome is:

p₁ = 10/20

p₁ = 1/2

Winnings if a blue chip is selected; x₂ = $10

Now, there are 4 blue chips in a bag of 20 chips.

Thus, the probability of this outcome is:

p₂ = 4/20

p₂ = 1/5

Winnings if a yellow chip is selected; x₃ = $20

Now, there are 6 blue chips in a bag of 20 chips.

Thus, the probability of this outcome is:

p₃ = 6/20

p₃ = 3/10

Finally, the expected value is:

E(X) = 5(¹/₂) + 10(¹/₅) + 20(³/₁₀)

E(X) = $10.5

We are told that w = x - 15

where x is the amount won from selection of chip which is E(X) = $10.5

Thus;

w = 10.5 - 15

w = -$4.5
