Both paintings shows us an historical event which happened long time ago.

The picture of ''The Death of Socrates'' provides us the theme of the 'trial and execution of Socrates' with a message of resistance against France's unfair ruling monarchy during ancient times. The Death of Socrates is a neo-classical art piece which was painted by a French painter Jacques-Louis David in the year 1787.

While on the other hand, Eugene Delacroix was the artist who painted ''The Death of Sardanapalus'' in 1827. He wanted to emphasize the magnitude of disaster. In this painting the ancient king surrounded by chaos and he has just ordered the death of his women, slaves, horses and most treasured concubine after knowing of defeat of his army so we can conclude that both paintings shows us an historical event which happened long time ago.
