Answer:

B.the history of modern interior design

Explanation:

When you are giving a 10 minute speech you have to keep in mind that you have very little time to present the topic, inform the audience and persuade them, in this case, 10 minutes is not enough to present the history of modern interior design, since modern interior design can be tracked down to 50 years ago, and you´d have to cover authors, designers, lines, colors, the uprising of the movement and many other topics in order to make a valuable speech, so 10 minutes are not enough.

What does this interaction between Mami and Papi reveal about
their relationship?

They often struggle for control over the household.

They frequently argue, but they also apologize.

They may disagree, but they also compromise.

They have different views on how to raise children.

Answers

This question is missing the passage. I have found the complete question online. Below is the missing excerpt:

Read the excerpt from the story "Mami and Papi (from When I Was Puerto Rican)." “Negi, come help in the kitchen.” I pretended not to hear but felt her eyes bore holes in the back of my head. Papi stepped between us. “Let her stay. I can use the help.” I peered between his legs and saw her squint and pucker her lips as if she were about to spit. He chuckled, “Heh, heh,” and she whirled toward the kitchen shed, where the fire in the fogón was almost out.

Answer:

What the interaction shows is:

C. They may disagree, but they also compromise.

Explanation:

In the passage we are analyzing here, Mami and Papi want Negi to do different things. They clearly disagree as to what she is supposed to do, but they do not argue. Notice that no fight follows Papi's statement that he needs Negi there with him. Instead, Mami simply goes to the kitchen shed. She is upset, but she compromises. Having that in mind, we can choose letter C as the best option:

C. They may disagree, but they also compromise.

Answer:

C. They may disagree, but they also compromise.

What is the central idea of the passage?

Rain is heavy, so it falls to the ground everywhere.
Rain falls to the ground faster in Asian countries because of gravity.
Rain falls everywhere on the Earth because of the same cause.
Rain has different causes and effects based on the country in which it falls.

Answers

Answer:

Rain falls everywhere on the Earth because of the same cause.

The central idea of the passage "If we assign the same causes to the same effects, then we should assume that if rain falls to the ground because of gravity in China, it should do the same in Japan and India. Likewise, we can assume that rain will fall to the ground in all other countries in Asia and on all other continents in the world" is that Rain falls everywhere on the Earth because of the same cause.

What is gravity?

"Gravity is the force by which a planet or other body draws objects toward its center."

The central idea of the passage is that rain falls everywhere on the Earth because of the same cause because gravity (that is the cause) results in the same effect (that is rain) everywhere.

It piques the readers' curiosity by describing an interesting real life question. C. It previews the methodology behind the research study as well as its preliminary findings. D. It emphasizes the limitations to the study and its application to education policy.

Answers

Answer:

B) It piques the readers' curiosity by describing an interesting real life question.

Explanation:

The beginning of the interview piques the readers' curiosity by describing an interesting real life question.

The interview in question is the 2015 NPR radio show titled "Nice Kids Finish First: Study Finds Social Skills Can Predict Future Success". The interview broadcasted in, All Things Considered, has show host Audie Cornish in conversation with Shankar Vedantam, NPR’s social science correspondent.

The two talked about a study that researches a child's future prospects of becoming successful or not. The study related to how intelligent, academically smart kids may not necessarily be successful or even be 'good' humans. Rather, it shows that those with good social skills and good listeners, even if they are not book smart, are more likely to be successful and stay out of trouble.

At the beginning of the interview, host Audie Cornish posed the question "try and predict which one of [kindergarten students] might finish college and get a good job two decades down the road. Is it the kid who knows her ABCs or the kid who has a good memory?" This question keeps the readers in suspense, piquing their interest, and making them eager to know more about the topic. Thus, the correct answer is option B.

in your own words, what is pyramus and thisbe about ?

Answer:

"Pyramus and Thisbe" is about forbidden love.

Explanation:

Pyramus and Thisbe were two young Babylonians who fell in love. However, their families did not see each other with good eyes and did not approve of their romance, forbidding them to see and talk. However, the two lived in neighboring houses and continued to communicate through a wall that separated their houses. The young people were living a forbidden love and it would only be possible to be together if they ran away from their parents. They agreed to flee during the night and were supposed to be near a white moray.

Thisbe was the first to arrive at the place, but was startled by the presence of a lioness with a bloody mouth. In fear, Thisbe ran to hide, but dropped the veil she wore on her head. The lioness saw the veil and tore it, staining it completely with blood.

Pyramus arrived at the scene shortly after, and when he saw the lioness tearing the veil, he thought Thisbe had been devoured by the animal. At that moment, he was extremely sad and full of remorse, picking up his sword and hitting his own heart. Seeing his beloved dead, Thisbe decided that she should die too, using the same sword to end her life.

It was official. Khufu had been crowned king of Egypt, and one of his first duties was to find a place to build his tomb. It would be his own special site, a new place that was away from the pyramids of the kings that had ruled before him. Khufu had plans to build an enormous complex, one that would include smaller pyramids for his mother and his wives, and many tombs for the rest of his family and the members of his court. To do so, he needed a very large area. He also had to follow religious tradition and choose a site that lay on the west side of the Nile River, in the direction of the setting sun. According to the ancient Egyptians, the sun died every night in the west and was born again in the east the next morning. Therefore, it was customary to bury people on the west bank of the river so that they could travel with the sun god through the night and be reborn with him at dawn.

Exactly What Was Needed

For the Egyptians, the desert was the perfect cemetery. As it lay beyond the reaches of the Nile's floodwaters, the tombs and bodies remained safe and dry. The desert was also the best place to find stone to build tombs. Equally important was the fact that by using the desert, the Egyptians kept the fertile strip of land along the eastern bank of the Nile for farmland.
But why pick Giza? When choosing a site, Khufu had had to keep other requirements in mind as well. The pyramid had to be near the city of Memphis, Egypt's capital at the time and the center of his government. Memphis traced its origins to the beginning of
Egyptian history. It had been founded by a king named Menes, who chose the area
because it was at the point where Upper and Lower Egypt met.
As the meeting point for many trade routes, Memphis was filled with government offices, temples, and houses for the officials who ran the country. The city's chief deity was Ptah, the creator god. The Egyptians also honored Ptah as the patron of craftsmen—the people who made pottery, carved statues, and painted the pictures that covered the walls of tombs and temples.

Near a God's City

The pyramid also needed to be near Heliopolis. Located on the east bank of the Nile, the city was sacred to the sun god Re, the most important deity in Egypt at the time. Re was worshipped in a temple at Heliopolis that was surrounded by statues and obelisks. Obelisks are tall pillars that are topped by small pyramids and acted as symbols of the sun. The Egyptians often covered the tops with gold so that they would reflect and shine in the sunlight. Egyptologists think that there might have been a special large obelisk in the temple at Heliopolis. Perhaps Khufu thought that his pyramid had to have a view of the temple and its obelisk.
Giza, however, was not the only site in the western desert that was near Memphis and had a view of Heliopolis. Khufu chose Giza because it had a large, flat plateau that was high above the floodplain and because there was a lot of good-quality building material in the area. Giza was also close enough to the Nile for Khufu's construction teams to transport additional building materials and supplies to the site by boat. Excavations offer evidence that workers dug a huge harbor at the foot of the Giza Plateau so that the imported goods could be brought as close as possible to the pyramid site.

A Family Affair

While his own tomb complex was being built, Khufu planned for the burials of his family and courtiers. Three small pyramids were erected to the east of his pyramid, perhaps for his mother and two of his wives. Two huge cemeteries were laid out like miniature towns to the east and west of Khufu's pyramid. Arranged in rows along narrow streets, the tombs were houses for the dead. Members of Khufu's immediate family were given tombs in the eastern cemetery. The western cemetery was mostly for courtiers. The tombs in these cemeteries are solid rectangles with sides that slope inward. Egyptologists call them mastabas, because they look like benches (mastabas in Arabic) found outside traditional Egyptian homes. The mastabas were built of limestone, just as the pyramids were. The small rooms inside were decorated with images of the dead person in front of tables piled high with food. Relatives of the dead person came to these rooms to visit their loved ones, to say prayers for their souls, and to bring their spirits more food and drink. The bodies of the deceased were placed in huge stone coffins that were in rooms dug into the stone below the mastabas. Khufu ordered the construction of a great many tombs in these two cemeteries. Only after they were built did he assign them to specific people: Some were family members, others were courtiers and officials who had proved themselves worthy of a burial site near that of the king. Every person who was given a tomb then placed his or her name in the tomb chapel and chose the decorations. After Khufu died, the cemetery remained in use for hundreds of years.

Which line from Act 2 of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street helps to distinguish this teleplay as a work of science fiction rather than a work of fantasy fiction?

"Show them nothing! If they want to look inside our house – let them get a search warrant.”
A figure has suddenly materialized in the gloom and in the silence we can hear the clickety-clack of slow, measured footsteps on concrete as the figure walks slowly toward them.
"We're all scared of the same thing. I was just tryin' to . . . tryin' to protect my home, that's all! Look, all of you, that's all I was tryin' to do."
“Who do I talk to? I talk to monsters from outer space. I talk to three headed green men who fly over here in what look like meteors.”

Answers

Answer:

the answer is D

Explanation:

The line shows it as science fiction, not as fantasy fiction where the writer discusses the conversation with aliens whom I talk to, he describes talking with the monster who looks like meteors. Thus, the correct option is D.

What is the storyline of the teleplay?

"The monsters are due on maple street" is a teleplay based on aliens or creatures from another world. The theme of Maple Street, as well as the monsters, is that fear of change leads to discrimination.

It's set in a world where a meteor flies over and everything on Maple Street stops operating. The biggest tension is also amongst the residents, who accuse persons on the street of being illegal immigrants or aliens.

Therefore, option D the emergence of monsters from the different planets will help this to categorize as Science fiction is correct.

Write a summary of the selection , "Pyramus and Thisbe," Ovid, to confirm your understanding of it. Your summary should have 6-8 sentences.

Answers

Answer:

The most significant source forA Midsummer Night’s Dream is Roman poet Ovid’s Metamorphoses, an epic poem that weaves together many Greek and Roman myths. Shakespeare alludes to many of the stories from Metamorphoses, but the story with the most obvious importance for his play is that of Pyramus and Thisbe. Originally appearing in Book IV of Ovid’s poem, this story tells of two lovers who long to marry against their parents’ wishes and who come to a tragic end in the attempt to do so. Shakespeare adapts this story for Midsummer’s play-within-a-play, performed in the final act by a group of craftsmen. The theatrical ineptitude of this troupe undermines the seriousness of their subject matter. What results is an ironically comedic performance that delights rather than saddens the audience of Athenian nobles. Perhaps the most ironic aspect of the craftsmen’s retelling is just how un-Ovidian their play is, and how this un-Ovidian spirit contrasts with the very Ovidian nature of the rest of Midsummer. Whereas the main storyline of Midsummer involves an engaging series of transformations and supernatural beings, the craftsmen’s production offers a dull, bare-bones retelling.

Significantly, the craftsmen’s production of “Pyramus and Thisbe” also parallels the main plot of Shakespeare’s play. Just as Theseus bans Hermia from marrying Lysander, so too do the fathers of Pyramus and Thisbe ban their union. Furthermore, just as Lysander and Hermia flee Athens and its harsh laws, so too do Pyramus and Thisbe flee Babylon to safeguard their love. One obvious difference between Midsummer and the story of Pyramus and Thisbe is that the former is a comedy and the latter is a tragedy. Nevertheless, Shakespeare manages to play comedy and tragedy against each other in such a way that draws the two stories into a mirrored relationship. Thus, just as the craftsmen set out to perform a tragedy but end up in the midst of a comedy, so too does the main story of Midsummer begin with the threat of tragedy (i.e., unhappy marriage or death) but ends with all of the lovers alive and in their preferred pairings.
