People use energy every day. Can you even imagine trying to get through a day without electricity? However, there’s a problem with the energy we use: eventually, it will run out. So what can we do to keep our cars, phones, televisions, and other energy-dependent items running well into the future?

What we need to do is start using alternative sources of energy, such as the sun, water, heat from the earth, wind, and plants. Energy generated from these sources is renewable and doesn’t cause harm to the environment. In contrast, fossil fuels take “millions of years” to form, according to “Energy Sources” by Jennifer Greene. In addition, fossil fuels “release harmful gases,” states Jason Eagleson in “Alternative Energy Sources.” Some people say that it costs too much and takes too long to switch from using conventional energy to using renewable sources. However, that argument isn’t very strong when you consider the country of Denmark. According to Eagleson, Denmark has managed to shift from using oil to “generate 92 percent of the energy it needed” to using wind farms and other renewable sources to create nearly half of the energy it consumes.

It is unlikely that we will become less dependent on energy in the future. Therefore, it’s important to start using renewable sources of energy. Otherwise, we may one day find ourselves living through not just one day but an eternity without electricity.
