Question 10
Choose the BEST coordinating conjunction to complete the sentence.
Fiona sang at the funeral, ________ she has a beautiful voice.
Select one:
or
for
but
so
Answer:
for
Explanation:
We can determine that for is the answer by process of elimination, if we plug "or" and "but" into the sentence, it wouldn't make much sense. That leaves us to so and for. However, in this context, singing at the funeral wouldn't make it so that her voice would be beautiful, therefore, the best coordinating conjunction would be for.
FOR is answer correct. Took the test and got it right.
Can you give a paragraph on how to persuade a student to get an education? 20 points!
Answer: Education is more than just learning from books, and it is a shame that a lot of schools do not see that it is more than just a curriculum and school score. A good education can teach a child how to learn so that the child may take up independent learning as an adult. Education may also teach a child how to reason so that a child does not grow up to be ignorant.

Identify whether the sentence below is a fragment, run-on or a correct sentence. Watching television shows, one after another, hour after hour, some young people forget their responsibilities. A. Fragment B. Run-on C. Correct
Answer:
c. Correct
Explanation:
The sentence shown is not a fragment because it is a complete sentence. Since a fragment, it is characterized as an incomplete sentence, interrupted and without completing the thought that begins. This does not happen in the sentence presented.
The sentence shown above also cannot be classified as a run-on sentence. This is because this sentence connects all the clauses that compose it correctly and run-on sentences do not present these links correctly, such as commas and prepositions.

A Good Day for a Bad Decision
Have you ever noticed that some people always seem to make the right choices? They may be the person who always picks the right pitch to swing at, or the one who always picks the pair of shoes that quickly become a popular fad. On the other hand, some people never seem to make a good decision. They may be the kids who ride a bike down a steep hill and crash into a bush or the ones who step to the edge of a sidewalk in time to get splashed by a car. How do some always seem to be living the good life while others seem doomed to misery? Is this just a matter of luck?
While luck probably has something do with it, the better explanation may be that the two groups have differences in the development of their brains. You see, most adult humans use their cerebral cortex to make decisions. The cerebral cortex is the part of the brain in the front of your head that deals with how you perceive the world and respond appropriately. It also helps you control your impulses. This part of the brain is still growing and developing connections well into your adult years. So for young adults and teenagers, the decision-making center of the brain is not completely formed yet.
At the same time, the teenage brain is also experiencing growth in another part of the brain—the amygdala (a-mig-dala). This part of the brain is responsible for emotions. Specifically, the amygdala talks to other parts of the brain about events related to rewards and fear.
In essence, our emotional brains are having growing spurts and our impulses are out of control at the same time our cerebral cortexes are not finished growing. We simply don't have the tools to control those emotions and impulses. As a result, teenagers feel overly emotional and wishy-washy when it comes to decisions. This development cycle is one reason society doesn't consider children to be adults until after they are 18. Biologically, the teenage brain is not generally ready for adult decisions.
So the differences between those who seem to make good decisions and those who seem to make bad ones may be fewer than you think. In fact, if you study the people you think make only good decisions, you will likely find they also make some catastrophically bad ones as well. A person's ability to make a good decision increases with age and experience though we all develop at different rates. While you are young, you may want to take advantage of those around you with bigger cerebral cortexes: adults. Their advice may be just what is needed to counter your amygdala.
Which line from the text best states the main idea of the text? (1 point)
Specifically, the amygdala talks to other parts of the brain about events related to rewards and fear.
As a result, teenagers feel overly emotional and wishy-washy when it comes to decisions.
A person's ability to make a good decision increases with age and experience though we all develop at different rates.
While you are young, you may want to take advantage of those around you with bigger cerebral cortexes.
Answer:
C). A person's ability to make a good decision increases with age and experience though we all develop at different rates.
Explanation:
The third option i.e. 'a person's ability...rates' most aptly conveys the central idea of the given text. It displays how an individual's decision-making ability enhances as their age develops and as they gain experience in their life. This helps them in gaining the maturity to make correct choices in their life using their cerebral cortex which allows them to perceive the world better. Thus, option C is the correct answer.
Answer:
the person above me is correct just took the test it is C

1. (a)ln "Avarice," the speaker notes four different items "she keeps. What is similar and
different about those items2() What does the poem suggest about greed-is it useless,
selfish, etc? Explain
Answer and Explanation:
The similarity between all these items is the girl, the protagonist of the poem, removed them from something or someone. None of the items belonged entirely to her. The difference between these items are the purposes that made this girl want them and the time of life when she got them.
Greed is selfish and negative. This can be confirmed with the tone of the poem that judges and disapproves of the girl's actions, which, due to her greed ends up accumulating things that are not worthwhile for her, but that would make someone else happy.

Turn the following ten words, which are in italics in the passage,
into other parts of speech.
prevalence → verb
potentially → noun
vulnerable noun
accessible verb
censorship → adverb
volunteer → adjective
dubious → noun
system adjective
regular verb
suitability → verb
Answer:
prevalence → verb → to prevail
potentially → noun → potential
vulnerable → noun → vulnerability
accessible → verb → to access
censorship → adverb → censorious
volunteer → adjective → voluntary
dubious → noun → dubiousness
system → adjective → systematic
regular → verb → to regulate
suitability → verb → to suit
Explanation:
In the English language, especially when it comes to words originated from Latin, it is common to change words with the addition or removal of certain parts -- the affixes. Notice, for example, that to transform "vulnerable" into a noun, we added a suffix (an ending): "vulnerability". On the other hand, to transform "censorship" into an adverb, we changed suffixes: "censorious". It is important to know and understand the use of affixes. They are a helpful means to figure out the meanings of new words.
